At Jeanne-Mance Park, our team designed a new generation of bleachers inspired by the natural rock formations of Mount Royal. The project combines universal accessibility, comfort, and long-term durability. A human-scaled intervention that welcomes both the energy of game days and the quiet rhythms of everyday life.

A Landmark Site to Reimagine

The mandate called for revitalizing the multisport field and its bleachers while preserving open views toward the mountain and maintaining harmony with the landscape. The project’s volumes, materials, and lines were shaped to integrate naturally into the topography and spirit of the site.

Located at the foot of Mount Royal, Jeanne-Mance Park is one of Montréal’s most visited public spaces. As a designated heritage site, it calls for an approach that is both respectful and seamlessly integrated.

Inspired by the rock formations of Mount Royal, the geometry of the bleachers dialogues with the landscape while honoring Olmsted's heritage. Local materials, both understated and durable, ensure visual harmony with the park's other features.

Designed for the everyday rhythms of the park as much as for sports events, the bleachers welcome a wide range of activities : watching a game, reading, picnicking, or simply relaxing. Seating supports multiple postures, with backrests, reclined surfaces, or open areas for personal chairs, and generous platforms make it easy to gather in groups. Here, comfort emerges from freedom of use and the richness of possible experiences.

A Space to Experience

Designed to last, the integrated bleachers combine robustness, ease of  maintenance, and environmentally responsible choices, reinforcing a commitment to long-term stewardship.

Guided by principles of universal accessibility, the bleachers are designed so everyone can find a place that meets their needs. Ramps, gentle slopes, clear visual contrasts, and thoughtful ergonomics create a smooth experience for all. The furniture is designed at a human scale : comfortable, inclusive, and adapted to welcome to a diversity of bodies and uses.

More than a sports installation, the project gives Jeanne-Mance Park a space to inhabit and share. Every detail (form, texture, accessibility) contributes to a unified vision: a lively, inclusive space that stays connected to the mountain and to the everyday life of Montréalers.
