Parc de la Chute-Montmorency, just 15 minutes from Québec City, blends spectacular nature, rich history, and modern amenities. Its refined new signage system reveals the park without overpowering it, adapting to the site’s unique language.

An exceptional natural and historic site
A spectacular destination year-round, Parc de la Chute-Montmorency features a 272-feet waterfall plunging toward the St. Lawrence River. Its network of trails and activities invites visitors to explore a site full of history.
As part of the revitalization of the lower falls area, PXP developed a vehicular and pedestrian signage program to mark wooded trails, highlight heritage elements, and promote the site’s key features.

Integrated, evocative signage
The lower falls area has undergone a significant transformation, offering a new architectural experience that respects the landscape while showcasing panoramic viewpoints and historical artifacts.

Informing, guiding, and enriching the experience
A range of tools has been implemented to support the approximately 800,000 annual visitors in their exploration of the park. Special attention has been given to enabling a free and informed experience, with clear information on distances, difficulty levels, and walking times, complemented by interpretive content and legible maps.

From a design standpoint, the new signage aligns with the site’s architectural vision. The footprint is kept minimal to respect the natural and landscaped settings, while slender proportions allow for easy identification from a distance. Carefully selected typography, expressive pictograms, and a colour palette consistent with SÉPAQ’s graphic language ensure optimal readability.

In step with the landscape
The signage project was developed in harmony with the site's natural and architectural surroundings. The vast and varied park encourages exploration through contrasting environments—wooden walkways, open plains, forest trails, river views, landscaped gardens, and more. The signage helps reinforce the site's identity, improve circulation between the upper and lower areas, guide visitors to services, and encourage discovery of the park’s many attractions through a personalized experience.
